Having recently moved house, I’ve realised that it’s time to have a major clear out of my wardrobes. During the move I found brunch outfits that I haven’t worn for the past five years, and most likely never will wear again!

So if like me, you’re ready for a Spring (or Autumnal) Clean then here are several ways that you can donate your unwanted clothes to those in need across Dubai:

Donation / Clothing Bins: Many shopping malls and residential communities have clothing donation bins where you can drop off your gently used clothing. Look for these bins in common areas or parking lots.

Charity Organisations: There are several charitable organisations in Dubai that accept clothing donations. Some well-known ones include:
  • Emirates Red Crescent: They have collection centres across Dubai and regularly conduct clothing drives for those in need.
  • Beit Al Khair Society: This organisation accepts clothing donations and distributes them to low-income families and individuals.
  • Dar Al Ber Society: They have multiple centres where you can donate clothing, and they assist various segments of the community.

Community Facebook Pages: There are Facebook groups and websites dedicated to helping to connect to those in need. A page I use frequently is UAE Pay it Forward. You simply list the clothing and other household items that you are parting ways with, and members will comment if they would like to collect your items free of charge.

Charity Shops: Some thrift stores and charity shops in Dubai accept clothing donations, which they then sell, with the proceeds going toward charitable causes. For example, Thrift for Good which is located at the Golden Mile, Palm Jumeirah, works in partnership with non-profit charity Gulf for Good.

Religious Organisations: Religious institutions, such as churches and mosques, may also accept clothing donations as part of their charitable activities.

Before donating, it’s a good idea to clean and package your clothing items neatly. Also, consider donating items that are in good condition and suitable for wearing, as this will be more helpful to those in need. Contact the organisation or location you plan to donate to for specific guidelines and operating hours, as they may vary.
