The terms ‘travel light’ and ‘family trip’ rarely appear in the same sentence. Even with our dreams of jetting back to Blighty with an empty suitcase – ready to cram full of everything we’ve gleefully purchased thanks to the favourable exchange rate – going anywhere with a baby or toddler in tow equates to kilos.

But, there are ways to make travelling easier on all of us, and a lightweight stroller is one of them!

British Mums has rounded up a hot list of the UAE’s most ‘life-saving’ travel strollers, that won’t weigh you down. All are available to buy in Dubai right now, and are sold as airline cabin compatible, although please do check your operator’s own regulations for cabin baggage prior to flying.

MAMAS & PAPAS ACRO

RRP: AED 799

Launched just last month, the Acro is brand new to the UAE market, and at an incredible 4.8kg – it’s the lightest model in our list.

The breathable mesh fabric makes it a good choice for summer, as do the pretty pastel shades of mint green, flame orange and light blue available for the canopy hood.

The handle has two height options, there is a deep shopping basket and the seat reclines for on-the-go naps. The Acro has a five-point safety harness and a robust bumper bar – making this a good option for younger children. It also comes with the sturdiest, zip-up, travel bag we’ve seen.

STROLLER WEIGHT: 4.8kg

AGE SUITABILITY: 6 months to 15kg/3 years approx

Available at Mamas & Papas.

GB POCKIT+

RRP: AED 999

GB have updated their Guinness Book of World Records winning Pockit stroller for 2017. The Pockit+ is a kilo heavier than its predecessor at 5.8kg, but for that you get a fully reclining seat and the option to attach a car seat (using adapters).

The sleek, linear design gives it quite a modern and male-friendly look, but the chic square canopy doesn’t offer much protection, so you might need to add a rain cover and/or parasol.

The Pockit+ has a five-point safety harness with padded straps and a roomy shopping basket, and it folds down to a neat square.

STROLLER WEIGHT: 5.8kg

AGE SUITABILITY: 6 months to 17kg/4 years approx

Available at Mumzworld, Sprii, The Baby Boutique and other outlets.

MOUNTAIN BUGGY NANO V2

RRP: AED 1,199

Another new and improved version of a much-loved travel stroller is the Nano V2 from Mountain Buggy. Carved out for its ability to take on curves and curbs, this model has thinner wheels and is an inch narrower than the Nano – which can make all the difference on the bus or tube!

It now has an enclosed flap when the seat is in its reclined position, and can be paired with a very cute newborn ‘cocoon’ to make it suitable from birth (AED 399 RRP).

The hood has an extendable sun visor which is now solid, rather than mesh, and very effective. The Nano has a five-point safety harness and adjustable leg rest, and has the option to add a car seat (using adapters).

STROLLER WEIGHT: 6kg

AGE SUITABILITY: Newborn to 17kg/4 years approx (additional newborn insert must be purchased for babies from 0-6 months)

Available at Baby Souk, DB Babies, Mumzworld and other outlets.

BABYZEN YOYO+

RRP: AED 2,149 for 6+ model

OK, it’s a bit of a splurge, but the BabyZen Yoyo has such a cult following globally – and among our British mums! – that it’s clearly doing something right.

The latest version of this premium travel stroller is the Yoyo+, and updates on it include better drivability, the option to add a car seat (using adapters) as well as a 60% expansion on the shopping basket. It also comes in a variety of beautiful fashion colours, including brand new ginger and peppermint, and it’s fair to say the Yoyo+ is the biggest statement-making stroller on our list!

The comfy padded seat reclines to a good level, there is a 5-point harness and the canopy hood is very well designed. The Yoyo+ also has a parent-facing newborn insert available for AED 1,050 (RRP).

STROLLER WEIGHT: 6.3kg

AGE SUITABILITY: Newborn to 17kg/4 years approx (additional newborn insert must be purchased for babies from 0-6 months)

Available at DB Babies, Mumzworld, Just Kidding, Sprii and other outlets.

JUST ESSENTIALS LAYA

RRP: AED 795

Now this one is a little harder to track down in the UAE. Currently in stock at Just Kidding, (but keep your eyes peeled online), as the odd limited time offer does appear elsewhere.

The Laya does feel a little chunkier at 7kg, but still very possible to carry over the shoulder to leave your hands free. There are three recline positions, with the lowest reaching an almost-flat position, so naps are not a problem, and the handlebar style bumper will encourage your little one to sit up and look around.

Anyone with the popular Maxi Cosi Pebble or Pebble Plus car seat will particularly love the Laya, as the two are compatible without the need for adapters.

STROLLER WEIGHT: 7kg

AGE SUITABILITY: 6 months to 17kg/4 years approx (additional newborn insert must be purchased for babies from 0-6 months)

Available at Just Kidding and other outlets.

GIGGLES CONCORDLITE

RRP: AED 449 (sale price)

Currently on sale (full price AED 599), the Concordlite is the cheapest travel stroller on our list. But for that, you get a significantly heavier piece of kit. Weighing in at over 10kg, and with a fairly flimsy carry case, don’t be under the illusion you’ll be able to carry this plus a child and/or handbag without a struggle.

The curved canopy hood offers good coverage, and is now available in trendier shades of charcoal grey, petrol blue and khaki, adding to the original Concordlite shades of pink and blue. There is a five-point harness, reclining seat and handlebar-style bumper and, overall, this is an undisputed bargain, ticking all the vital boxes.

Please note this model is suitable for 12 month to 3-year-olds. Giggles does offer other ‘travel’ models for younger children, but these weigh an average of 15kg and are even less portable.

STROLLER WEIGHT: 10.3kg

AGE SUITABILITY: 12 months to 3 years/15kg approx

Available at Babyshop.
