While many of you are planning your summer escapes, if you are looking at a long summer ahead in the UAE, why not plan a Staycation in RAK, Ajman, Fujairah or UAQ?
We are spoilt for choice in the UAE with some of the most beautiful luxury resorts in the world, and in the UAE they know the family market well; larger than average rooms that fit family groups, kids clubs, private beaches and extensive lists of activities and restaurants. Best of all, many of these hotels offer super specials in the hot summer months to keep the visitors coming!
We’ve selected here some of our British Mums family favourites but let us know if there are any gems you think we are missing!
A truly scenic drive across the Hajar Mountains will see you pop out on the East coast of the Emirates and the beautiful blue waters of the Gulf of Oman. As well being known for its outdoor activities as much its beautiful beach fronts, Fujairah is the ideal place to escape from the big smoke of Dubai.
British Mums’ Resort Recommendations
There are two main resort areas to stay in Fujairah, near Dibba Al-Fujairah in the North, taking the E87 from Ras al Khaimah, or take the E102/E84 route to Fujairah city centre, then head north up the gulf coast 40km to the resort area of Al Aqah Beach.

Ras al Khaimah
There’s so much more to Ras al Khaimah (RAK) than first meets the eye. Not just luxurious beach front resorts but a vast desert scape and amazing mountains to explore. You don’t just come to RAK to relax but to get active and a good dose of traditional UAE culture too.
In the cooler months, there are a lot of outdoor adventure companies based here. Take advantage of the mountains and wadis with a variety of activities from mountain biking to zip lining along the Via Ferrata, horse riding to kayaking. A trip to see sunrise on top of the UAE’s highest point Jebel al Jais has to be on your UAE bucket list!
Those just looking at weekend staycation packages for the summer though are likely to be drawn to Marjan Island. Another “only in the UAE” style of project, man-made Marjan Island houses a string of luxury hotel resorts with more development to come. Oh, and you’ll also find Iceland Water Park, one of the UAE’s most highly rated and largest, without the massive crowds you can often encounter in Dubai.
Most hotels will also help organise day trips by dhow or by road to Musandam Peninsula, Oman (pack your passport if this is the case!) RAK is also popular choice for a stress-free border run crossing to Oman – why not make a weekend of it! Look here for more info.

Staff will help you with your camp fire and you sleep in wooden cabanas that fit 4 or tents with blow up mattresses.
