I have been in Dubai for over 20 years now, working within the Meetings, Incentives & Events industry. I first came to Dubai to visit my parents in 1995 as I was living with my grandparents and doing my GCSEs in the UK. Both my brother and I have been in the Middle East with my parents during the 80’s and 90’s as well, so Dubai has a special place in my heart.
WHERE IS HOME?
I was born in Chester and then grew up on the Wirral near Liverpool.
WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU WERE YOUNGER?
I always remember saying I wanted to be a vet (what child didn’t, if they loved animals!) but I said I wouldn’t want to put them to sleep – so became an Event Specialist – as you do!
WHAT DO YOU DO?
I started out in Medical telesales in Liverpool when I was 18, after finishing my A-levels. I was then given the opportunity to fill in for someone on Maternity Leave for a large organisation on a Medical Exhibition in Dubai. They then offered me a permanent role in 2000 and I didn’t look back!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE ACTIVITY TO DO WITH YOUR CHILDREN?
My daughter loves the water, so what better place than the pool or beach at the weekend – and we are so grateful to be able to do that most weekends in Dubai.
HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR WEEKENDS?
If we are not swimming (or splashing really) then anything out and about, as my daughter loves the car so we make sure there are a few road trips included most weekends.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE MOVIE?
Oh, this one you can’t judge me on…… but has to be Sound of Music – I now have a good excuse when I do put it on that we can sing along to “Do-Re-Mi”
IF YOU COULD EAT ONE MEAL FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
I do seem to be a creature of habit when it comes to food and also know what I don’t like, so am not very adventurous – it would have to be a Sunday Roast (made by my mum!)
WHO’S YOUR CELEBRITY CRUSH?
Crush would have to be Jason Statham but most admired and followed is Anthony Hopkins – I think because he reminds me so much of my grandad and I just think he is wonderful too.
WHICH DESTINATION IS ON YOUR BUCKET LIST TO VISIT?
Would have to be New Zealand. I never got around to planning that long trip!
WHAT’S YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE?
Oww, jelly sweets like Haribo….or like the 10p mixes in the 80’s (but not those chocolate mice!) a quart of midget gems and wine gums from the market on a Saturday – and that was my weekend sorted!
IF YOU COULD HAVE A SUPER POWER, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
To rewind time and spend precious time with my dad again and grandparents
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT LIVING IN DUBAI?
The fact you can literately pick and choose almost everything you desire to do around the world, within one destination – I always say we are very lucky to live here and interact with so many people from across the globe as well.
