ABOUT ME

Im Sofi! I’m the owner of Eggs & Soldiers and mum to four children; two boys and two girls – Kaya, 7, Luka, 6, Mason, 4 and Zenia, 3. I’ve been married to Simon for 9 years, who I met at Dubai College while we both grew up here, and although our life as parents and business owners is hectic, we have two rescue dogs, and even find room for a few fosters, too! I grew up between the UAE and the UK, attending school in both countries at various times, before planting roots in Dubai after I finished college in 2006. We’re lucky enough to have our extended family here in Dubai also – which includes my mum, my two sisters, their husbands and kids, and also my husband’s parents. I’m a very quiet person who enjoys the simple life. You’re more likely to find me BBQ-ing at home than the latest Insta-worthy hotspot : ).

WHERE IS HOME?

Dubai! Having spent the majority of my life here, it’s very much home. I feel like a tourist in the UK, although that’s where my family are originally from.

WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU WERE YOUNGER?

I’m not sure I had a specific thing. I think it probably changed regularly, rotating between jobs than involved animals and make-up!

WHAT DO YOU DO?

I trained as a make-up artist for fashion and film, and did that until I had children. Becoming a mother in Dubai opened by eyes to the lack of access to natural, sustainable, chemical-free and eco-friendly products for babies and children, which prompted me to launch Eggs & Soldiers. Our ethos is to educate and offer parents ‘a more natural way’ to raise their families.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE ACTIVITY TO DO WITH YOUR CHILDREN?

That’s a tough one. Anything that involves being outside really. BBQs at home, playing in the garden, swimming at our compound, dog walks in the desert.

HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR WEEKENDS?

Outside as much as the weather allows, although I do love movie time. On weekends, we always have a movie after lunch so everyone has some down time. I love kids’ movies, and sofa cuddles!

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE MOVIE?

Wow! That’s a hard one. I love all the kids’ movies – Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc, The Lion King, The Jungle Book, Ice Age, Mary Poppins, Annie, Oliver Twist, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory… Is that too many?!

IF YOU COULD EAT ONE MEAL FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Probably a roast dinner! Or Spaghetti Bolognaise. Or chocolate fondant (is that even a meal?!).

WHO’S YOUR CELEBRITY CRUSH?

I’m afraid I don’t really pay much attention to celebs so I have no idea. Sorry!

WHICH DESTINATION IS ON YOUR BUCKET LIST TO VISIT?

I haven’t been to the Far East other than a brief visit to Singapore. I’m desperate to explore the area and my first stops would be Thailand, Japan, Vietnam and Indonesia.

WHAT’S YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE?

Nutella, on a spoon!

IF YOU COULD HAVE A SUPER POWER, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Time travel! How awesome would it be to go back and relive the good bits, fast forward through the crappy bits, and jump forward to know if something is a good idea or not?

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT LIVING IN DUBAI?

I love that it’s so safe. I had an amazing childhood here, and had so much freedom as a result of it being so safe – I think that’s something we often take for granted. Yes, it’s an amazing city with such diversity, which I also love, but I always feel so safe here, and that really is priceless.
