Hi, I’m Sam, a British mum currently living in Bahrain with my husband and 21-month-old son, Oliver. But for the last 7 years we have been living in Saudi, so we aren’t strangers to the Middle East way of life. I met my husband in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia while we were both there working, 5 years later we got married in the UK, moved to Khobar, fell pregnant then the pandemic hit. My favourite things are going out with hubby and our friends for a nice Friday brunch after a busy week, taking Oliver to the many different soft play’s, beaches, and parks to see the happiness and excitement on his little face and, where possible, attending an exercise class or two.
WHERE IS HOME?
Home is wherever hubby and Oliver are, so currently Bahrain. However deep-down home will always be Shropshire in the UK where I grew up and my extended family are. Hubby is from North Wales, so if we were to move back, we would maybe live between Shropshire and Llandudno.
WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU WERE YOUNGER?
When I was younger, I always wanted to have a career in sports/exercise having been a county swimmer and gymnast with the odd participation in athletics too. Swimming is still a passion of mine.
WHAT DO YOU DO?
Currently I am a stay-at-home mum to Oliver, but up until recently I have been a nurse doing what I love for the last 11 years with a career of working in the UK and Saudi. Maybe one day I will return to nursing, who knows. I’m also helping run the British Mums Bahrain group, so any questions – just ask!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE ACTIVITY TO DO WITH YOUR CHILDREN?
Our favourite activity is swimming and splashing around in the pool. I’ve always been a water baby and now Oliver has gained my love of the water.
HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR WEEKENDS?
On a weekend you will generally find us out in the pool or down at the beach in the sea and spending time with friends socialising.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE MOVIE?
My all-time favourite movie is Legally Blonde, having watched it sooooooo many times and even been to see the west end show version a few times too. Such a feel-good film. I also love musical films such as Bohemian Rhapsody, Rocket Man and Pitch Perfect 1, 2 & 3, they always put me in a good mood as I love a sing along.
IF YOU COULD EAT ONE MEAL FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
It would be a curry with rice, chips and naan bread. Not sure why, but it’s always been my favourite meal and I cook one at least twice a week.
WHO’S YOUR CELEBRITY CRUSH?
David Beckham. For years I have had a crush on him, and he seems to just get better with age.
WHICH DESTINATION IS ON YOUR BUCKET LIST TO VISIT?
Pre-covid I loved to travel for weekends away and holidays to relax. I have a few destinations on my bucket list of places to visit now the world is opening up again, India, Bali, Australia, Lapland at Christmas to see Santa and to go back to Disney Land Florida and take Oliver. Better tell hubby to get some overtime in!
WHAT’S YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE?
I have one guilty pleasure and that’s Dairy Milk chocolate from the UK, any kind as long as it’s the UK version! The Middle eastern versions of dairy milk just aren’t the same.
IF YOU COULD HAVE A SUPER POWER, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
It would be to stop time, so I could complete everything that needed doing (laundry etc) and have a full night’s sleep so every day could be spent doing fun exciting things with family and friends.
