ABOUT ME

Hi everyone, I’m Lisa from Steps but I answer to just Lisa too I have recently joined BMD and I love catching up with you all and hearing about your lives, families and top tips! It’s wonderful to have a network of lovely ladies to reach out to for advice.

I’m so pleased that Steps just hit the No.1 spot in the iTunes Charts with our new single What The Future Holds written by Sia and our new album with the same title is out on 27th November – just in time for Christmas.

WHERE IS HOME?

For me, home is where the family is.

WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU WERE YOUNGER?

A Pop Star My dream was to be a successful performer and build a career doing what I loved. I feel blessed that my dreams came true.

WHAT DO YOU DO?

As some of you may know, I am a member of the British Pop Group STEPS and also the Co-Founder and Principal of Dubai Performing Arts Academy, fondly known as DPA, with my husband Johnny. I met Johnny way back in 1999 when he walked into our Steps Dancer Auditions and straight into my life. Cheesy I know but it’s true! Hence my love for the movie Dirty Dancing! After we toured the UK together with Steps, Johnny went on to join the pop group Hear’Say, before starring in the West End as one of the lead roles in FOOTLOOSE, amongst other Musicals. We left London back in 2011 and moved to Dubai with 2 cases and 2 babies – and a 2 year plan! More tours followed and once we had settled back into this wonderful city, we spotted a gap in the Performing Arts training available here, and over a bottle of wine and with a head full of dreams, DPA was born! As well as Johnny and I being Professional Performers, we are both qualified Teachers of Dance and so we opened our doors in 2014, and we haven’t looked back since. The best thing about owning a business here is meeting all the wonderful families and passing on our experience and knowledge to the next generation of budding stars! DPA provides a warm, friendly environment for children to learn in and we are proud to have built our supportive community, with over 600 amazing students and our fully qualified dedicated DPA teaching team. We have just launched our Music Department along with Centre of Musical Arts (CMA) and we offer Instrumental Lessons, alongside the first BTEC Level 3 in Performing Arts in the region, which is keeping us busy! I still have time to scroll through BMD for my daily fix though!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE ACTIVITY TO DO WITH YOUR CHILDREN?

Johnny and I are lucky that our children Jaden and Star Lily are following in our footsteps and share our love and passion for Performing Arts, so the kids come to work with Mummy and Daddy after school every day. I love watching them perform and they train hard, like Johnny and I did, so I make sure to make time for family activities such as cooking, ice skating, watching movies and cuddles.

HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR WEEKENDS?

We have a Saturday Stage School at DPA, so the family spend all day at DPA and the kids do Ballet, Boys Dance, Musical Theatre and more! Friday is our family day when we relax and catch up with our friends.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE MOVIE?

Dirty Dancing! And I met my Johnny but don’t try to put me in a corner!☺️

IF YOU COULD EAT ONE MEAL FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Sushi.

WHICH DESTINATION IS ON YOUR BUCKET LIST TO VISIT?

New Zealand. We were just about to tour Australia and New Zealand with the Pussy Cat Dolls in April when the pandemic struck, and so our tour has been postponed till 2022!

WHAT’S YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE?

Steps

IF YOU COULD HAVE A SUPER POWER, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Invisibility so I could be a fly on the wall!

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT LIVING IN DUBAI?

Having our business DPA and amazing students and being surrounded by wonderful friends and family.
