ABOUT ME

My name is Dru Campbell and although I hold Australian and Irish passports, I previously lived in the United Kingdom for six years. Our house is in Denham, Buckinghamshire. I am a Nurse, Midwife and Lactation Consultant and I am registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council in the UK and the Dubai Health Authority (DHA). I have worked in hospitals both in Essex and London. I am the very proud Mum of a ten year old boy and my husband and I have lived in Dubai for the past fourteen years. We also have two Rhodesian Ridgeback dogs who are very spoilt!

WHERE IS HOME?

When I was in primary school I wanted to work with animals and then in high school I wanted to become a doctor. It was really because I wanted to help others, so Nursing and Midwifery were an excellent choice for me. I have had so many wonderful experiences throughout my career, so I am so glad I chose these healthcare fields.

WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU WERE YOUNGER?Ā

When I was in primary school I wanted to work with animals and then in high school I wanted to become a doctor. It was really because I wanted to help others, so Nursing and Midwifery were an excellent choice for me. I have had so many wonderful experiences throughout my career, so I am so glad I chose these healthcare fields.

WHAT DO YOU DO?

I have worked in hospitals for most of my career. I was a Nurse for six years working mainly on surgical wards, then I graduated as a Midwife in 2000. My passion has always been labour ward, but the shifts can be very challenging when you are a Mum. I have worked at HealthBay Polyclinic for the past eleven years. I teach Antenatal Classes and work in Baby Clinic helping parents with infant feeding, giving baby care advice and administering vaccinations. We have a lovely team and everyone at HealthBay is like family to me. Some of my colleagues I have worked with for many years and we have formed very close friendships. All of the staff there are amazing and our Christmas parties are so much fun. Particularly on the dance floor!

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE ACTIVITY TO DO WITH YOUR CHILDREN?

My son and I are very close and because I work shifts, the time I get to spend with him is very precious. We love cooking together, playing board games and we both love iceskating at Dubai Mall. We often go for walks on the beach, kick the football together and sometimes we will go for a treat at Lime Tree Cafe.

HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR WEEKENDS?

Usually on Fridays I teach Antenatal Classes which I love as I get to meet so many lovely couples. Our Midwifery team share the Saturday shifts around, so sometimes I am working. My husband works shift work as he is an Aircraft Engineer, so if I am home it means that he is at work so our son and I will usually finish off homework, go iceskating or sometimes ten pin bowling. Other weekends we will go to the local park and play football (note: I am hopeless but I try my best to kick a goal!)

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE MOVIE?

Our son asked me this the other day and I really had to think hard about it. I have a few favourite movies, but mostly ones from the 80s/90s such as Dirty Dancing, Pretty Woman and Sleepless in Seattle. I actually love watching all types of movies, but not scary ones.

IF YOU COULD EAT ONE MEAL FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

I would have to say chocolate. I am like my Grandmother and my Dad, a chocoholic. I also love Thai food.

WHO’S YOUR CELEBRITY CRUSH?

They are a lot younger than me šŸ™‚ but I would have to say the Hemsworth brothers. I like Australian surfer types. My husband is an Australian surf kayaker so close šŸ™‚

WHICH DESTINATION IS ON YOUR BUCKET LIST TO VISIT?

One of my best friends from Australia and I used to love watching the Indiana Jones movies when we were younger. We have known each other since we were in Year Five. We call each other the Indianettes and we have promised ourselves that we will visit Jordan when it is our next big birthday.

WHAT’S YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE?

Most definitely chocolate. Easter time is a hard time for me to try and be good.

IF YOU COULD HAVE A SUPER POWER, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

I would save all the abandoned animals around the world and find them lovely homes.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT LIVING IN DUBAI?

I love the lifestyle here in Dubai. The beaches, the multicultural city, the friends that you make that are like family, the hotels that where you can have a lovely cup of tea, the variety of food available, Spinneys and Waitrose and the one thing I will really miss when we eventually leave Dubai is valet parking šŸ™‚
