ABOUT ME

I’m a mum of two with a passion for personal finance. I’ve been living in the UAE for ten years and currently reside in Al Ain with my husband, two young children and pet cat. Although I’m a teacher by trade, my savvy saving strategies and love of frugal living and budgeting soon led to my blog and passion project helping people manage their money better. My first love in life is horses and I met my husband when he was my riding instructor. When I’m not at the stables, I enjoy cooking whilst listening to a Podcast.

WHERE IS HOME?

I come from a small town in Cheshire, England and my home for the last ten years has been the UAE.

WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU WERE YOUNGER?

I wanted to be a vet as I have always loved animals. I didn’t have the stomach for it though and ended up teaching through a leadership programme called Teach First.

WHAT DO YOU DO?

I’m an English teacher turned personal finance coach and blogger. My love of all things personal finance has led to me using my teaching experience and skills to educate people about budgeting spreadsheets instead of Shakespeare!

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE ACTIVITY TO DO WITH YOUR CHILDREN?

I love being with them when they discover or try new things, such as horse riding or travelling to different places. However, for me, nothing beats our evening routine of reading books and having a chat about the day before they go to bed – these are the precious moments that I savour the most.

HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR WEEKENDS?

When I’m not updating my blog or writing personal finance articles, I love getting active with my kids, either horse-riding, swimming or hiking. You can also often find me sipping a cup of coffee at La Brioche – my favourite coffee in the UAE!

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE MOVIE?

Donnie Darko – even twenty years after it was released, I still love watching it for the suspense, fantastic acting performances and timeless wisdom interweaved into the intriguing plot.

IF YOU COULD EAT ONE MEAL FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Roast dinner – it reminds me of Sundays when I was growing up, as my parents always cooked a roast which we ate together as a family and it’s one of the things I miss the most about the UK.

WHO’S YOUR CELEBRITY CRUSH?

Jamie Dornan – the Irish accent and classic good looks do it for me!

WHICH DESTINATION IS ON YOUR BUCKET LIST TO VISIT?

Kenya – I have been to South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Zambia and love the magic of Africa. I would love to return to go on safari in the Masai Mara, this time with my children.

WHAT’S YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE?

Subscribing to Netflix for a month, binge watching all the shows, then unsubscribing!

IF YOU COULD HAVE A SUPER POWER, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Super learning abilities. I think the ability to absorb vast amounts of information quickly would be a massive advantage in this knowledge economy we are currently in. I also wouldn’t mind being able to eat whatever I want without gaining any weight!

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT LIVING IN DUBAI?

I love the safety of the UAE. I haven’t once felt unsafe in ten years, which is saying something!
