ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m Alice! I was born and raised in Rhyl, North Wales with my older sister, younger brother, mum and dad. I always loved sports and played everything possible, tennis and hockey were my preferred sports, and I represented Wales in the junior age groups in rounders and tennis. I wasn’t always a perfect angel at school (Ok, I never was!) but I just loved going to school to learn and be with my friends. I moved to Dubai with my then-boyfriend in 2006 for just two years (promise Mum, it’s just for two years!) to teach and have never returned home. I got married here and now have two beautiful children, Bella and Flossy.

WHERE IS HOME?

Home is now Dubai and I can’t imagine living anywhere else. We live The Springs, where we have lived for the last thirteen years and bought here in 2018. If I did move back to the UK, York would be a favoured destination. I went to University and met my husband there, so it’s a city that has a part of my heart.

WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU WERE YOUNGER?

Anything to do with sport! I went through the whole list of job opportunities….sports commentator, sports journalist, physiotherapist, and professional tennis player!

WHAT DO YOU DO?

I initially trained as a secondary PE teacher which I enjoyed doing for many years, it is what brought me to Dubai. However, over time I began teaching Primary PE and discovered that I loved teaching this age. The next thing I know, I have an interview for the role of FS1 classroom teacher at Jebel Ali School and I’ve never looked back. Best decision ever! I just love it.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE ACTIVITY TO DO WITH YOUR CHILDREN?

We love going to Motiongate and Legoland. Both my children are adrenaline junkies and we all end up riding the biggest rollercoasters on repeat. We also love waterparks and spending time at the beach. We are completely spoilt for choice by the range of activities in Dubai which is why we love it here so much. You can never get bored!

HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR WEEKENDS?

Usually driving my children to their netball fixtures in the mornings and then spending time with the family or friends at various destinations in Dubai. We love the beach during the hotter months and exploring different parks in the winter months.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE MOVIE?

That’s a tough one. I’d probably have to say Shawshank Redemption. The movie never fails to bring a tear to my eye every time I watch it.

IF YOU COULD EAT ONE MEAL FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Oh that’s an easy one – Prawn Fajita’s with an abundance of guacamole! Yummy!

WHO’S YOUR CELEBRITY CRUSH?

I have to admit that I was never a teenager who had posters on my bedroom wall of celebrity crushes or music idols so I find this question hard. If pushed, I would probably say David Beckham as he is so good to look at!

WHICH DESTINATION IS ON YOUR BUCKET LIST TO VISIT?

So many places as I just loved travelling before kids! However, South Africa is somewhere I have to visit. The vineyards, scenery, safari’s and culture all appeal to me so is definitely number one on my list.

WHAT’S YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE?

Reese’s NutRageous, I can’t get enough of them! Whenever anyone in my class asks what my favourite things to eat are I always say ‘Ch’ food….Cheese and chocolate!

IF YOU COULD HAVE A SUPER POWER, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

To be able to blink my eyes and appear in the place I was imagining. I guess a bit like teleporting so I could pop home and see my mum, dad and sister or quickly visit my brother who lives in Las Vegas.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT LIVING IN DUBAI?

The abundance of family entertainment choices on your doorstep all year round. Theme parks, brunches and beach parks to name a few and obviously having great weather most of the year allows us to get out and explore so many places – you just can’t get bored here!
