What a busy week for parents in Dubai – what with the announcement of the latest Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) school rankings and the calendar dates for the new school year being released, many parents in Dubai, (especially those part of the Kings’ school group), have a whole host of things to celebrate!

Leading the way with huge smiles all round is longstanding Kings’ School Dubai, the founding school in the Dubai headquartered Kings’ Education group. This impeccable British curriculum based school right in the heart of Umm Suqeim has just hit the formidable milestone of receiving yet another ‘Outstanding’ KHDA inspection ranking for an incredible, (wait for it….) 10th year running!

The recently released KHDA results also saw its sister school, the newer Kings’ School Al Barsha, raised to ‘Very Good’ with its Foundation stage being given an ‘Outstanding’ rating across the board. Its Primary school achieved an extremely strong position and Secondary (which is in the first year of national and international performance at GCSE level), has recorded outstanding KHDA results too.

Kings’ School Dubai along with the growing campus at Kings’ School Al Barsha continue to build on their highly regarded reputations when it comes to school choices in Dubai. Their live-by motto of ‘be the best by every child’ also means that parents and prospective new parents moving to Dubai will benefit from even more positive changes ahead.

KINGS’ SCHOOL AL BARSHA GETS A NEW PRINCIPAL

For starters, a familiar face with many parents at Kings’ School Al Barsha is Rebecca Gray, who goes from being a brilliant current primary head teacher to being promoted to Principal of the school.

The Director of Education for Kings’ Education Group, Alan Williamson, describes the new Principal as “an outstanding leader with a formidable track record from the UK, and in the two years she has been with us, her energy, ideas, and creativity have brought a real sense of purpose to the Primary environment, where every classroom is literally buzzing.”

It’s no wonder that parents love the sound of busy, motivated classrooms and with Rebecca Gray now at the new helm, this frees up Mr Williamson to focus his attention on the opportunity to build upon the seemingly unstoppable successes across the group’s trio of schools.

High on the agenda is the ongoing development of Kings’ model for sporting excellence and wellbeing, (they’re smashing the leagues by the way), as well as spearheading an Arabic language improvement agenda through exploring links with universities, the possibility of positioning Kings’ as a teacher training institution, and introducing the first Confucius Hub at a British curriculum school in Dubai.

EXPANDING THE CREATIVE SPACES FOR STUDENTS

It doesn’t stop there though. In fact, a whopping AED20 million is being invested in the development of the campus’ social spaces and existing facilities, which, will be completed in time for the start of the new school year.

Kings’ School Al Barsha remains committed to its academic and business model as its long-founded sister school does, which is for a school of approximately 2,000 students with seven or eight-form entry across various different sections and phases. The point of this project is not simply to add classrooms to the school to accommodate more students, but to enhance their Kings’ experience.

Amid these ongoing enhancements, the left side of their campus will become home to an expanded Primary block, with a similarly extended Foundation school that will house a brand, spanking new purpose-built hall for FS pupil productions, drama, music, and even its own canteen.

Several new music classrooms will also be introduced while the Primary block will be home to additional Arabic and Islamic Studies classrooms, a Mandarin language classroom, plus a larger canteen, especially for Primary children.

Over in the Secondary school, the focus is a little bit different, and because they have their first Year 13 now coming through, and a new Year 7 (with over 150 new children starting in September), this time Kings’ does actually need more classrooms. Here, 12 brand new learning spaces will be added as part of its Expressive Arts building expansion, that will not only be super-impressive in itself but will also allow the English and Maths departments to unite under one roof.

Rounding out the exciting new developments will be a second food technology classroom (which in true Dubai form, will be a first for our city in terms of its full-scale hospitality standard facilities), two state-of-the-art science labs, further playground space improvements that take account of Dubai’s hot weather and the addition of what we like to see most – more green spaces and smiling faces.
