British Mums is all about community. It’s the #1 stop for British mums who are living outside of the UK to meet like-minded expats, ask for advice and receive genuine recommendations.
A long standing group (over 8 years!) British Mums is genuine, trusted and real. It’s a group of mums, for mums, ran by mums. We’ve put together this guide on using the British Mums website and Facebook Groups to make your experience so much better!
British Mums Facebook
Community Managers
Also known as the group admins or moderators, British Mums has a selected few Community Managers to help manage the group. To view who the Community Managers are, you can visit the members section of the group and it will show all admins and moderators. You can also look at their posts within the group to see if there is an admin badge. Please do not message the Facebook profiles of our Community Managers. Because they’re not your Facebook friend, your message will end up in their spam or other messages folder and can be missed. Rather send an email to info@britishmums.com for a quicker response.
Announcements
Group announcements are posts that appear at the top of your Facebook group in a dedicated announcements section.
British Mums regularly add announcements to the Facebook group. These announcements include messages, discounts, special offers, competitions, events or news from our partners, community or even national news, such as updates on the Coronavirus or legislative changes. So do make sure that you have a look at the announcements at least once a day.
Post Topics
With Facebook group engagement rising, some groups are now truly massive (British Mums Dubai is at almost 14,000 members!), which can make it difficult to find posts on the topics you’re most interested in. In order to better cater to such usage, Facebook offers post topics tags for groups, which enables group members and admins to categorise group posts accordingly.
Topics include discounts and offers, school and education, events, competitions, charities, community guidelines and more. If there is a topic that you would like us to add, please email info@britishmums.com.
Search Function
Before you post a question, it’s a good idea to first search the group to see if your question has already been asked by someone else.
- From your News Feed, click Groups in the left menu and select your group.
- Click
on the right.
- Enter names or keywords that appear in the post or the comments of the post you’re searching for.
- Filter search results by selecting options on the left.
Community Guidelines / Group Rules
These Community Guidelines are here to help you better understand what it means to be a part of the British Mums Facebook group. Membership status will be allocated to users that meet our acceptance criteria. Please don’t forget that your membership of the group is subject to these Community Guidelines as well as our Terms and Conditions and we reserve the right to block/ remove members that don’t comply to these; so please have a read below.
Be kind
This is a community where everyone is free to express themselves and opinions will vary. Keep it light, be nice and don’t have a public tantrum – with toddlers, we have enough of those at home!
Act responsibly
Adhere to social media laws and don’t mention brands, companies or individuals by name if you’re feeling the need to let off some steam.
Keep it light
We don’t permit the spamming of our members with commercial or advertising messages, including self-promotion. Please email partner@britishmums.com if you wish to advertise to our group members.
Keep it relevant
Please have the courtesy not to reference/link to other groups/pages. If a member has posted in British Mums, then we would like them to be able to find the answer without being directed elsewhere.
You can find the rest of the Facebook Community Guidelines here and the Community Guidelines on the British Mums website, which is an extension of the group rules, here.
Reporting Posts
If you find that a post goes against our community guidelines, you can report the post for review by a Community Manager. These include advertising, unkind comments or inappropriate content.
- Click
in the top right of the post.
- Click Find support or report post.
- To give feedback, click the option that best describes how this post goes against our Community Standards. Click Next.
- Depending on your feedback, you may then be able to submit a report to Facebook. Click Done.
Turn on Notifications
Instead of taking the time and effort to write a comment just so you can receive notifications, you can use a really fab Facebook feature. Go to any Facebook post (it doesn’t matter if it’s in a group, on a friend’s timeline, or in your feed), and click the three dots in the upper-right corner. From that group of options, choose “Turn on notifications for this post”. You’ll get notifications anytime someone comments, even if you never did. Never post “F” again!
Anonymous Requests
Do you have a sensitive question that you don’t want to publically post? Maybe you’re considering divorce, are having issues at work or with your child’s school, or perhaps you have a medical condition you’re worried about. Please send any requests to info@britishmums.com and not to the personal accounts of Community Managers. Please note that only anonymous posts deemed to be of a sensitive and/or of a personal nature may be posted. Please note that due to the amount of requests received, we cannot engage in back and forth messages between you and group members. If someone posted a comment and you’d like to engage with them, please send them a direct message.
Mentorship
Mentorship is available within select groups. Group members can choose their mentorship partner and get one-on-one support from another group member.
Mentorship can last up to 10 weeks. Once completed, you’ll still be able to see everything you and your partner shared. If you need more information about mentorship, please email info@britishmums.com.
British Mums Website
Hand in hand with the Facebook group, the website aims to provide British mums and the mums of British children living in the UAE, with an awesome community resource, which makes it super easy for them to find exactly what they’re looking for.
With British mums in mind, a community focused website has been created with some high-tech functionality and special content that only British Mums members can access. The website has been specially designed so that now searching for a new job, helper or looking for instant recommendations is easy to find, filterable and most importantly, it’s updated by you, so you can always trust the information you’re getting.
Mums can now list their holiday home, find a new villa or buy and sell all kinds of second-hand things, taking comfort that whether you’re looking for a buggy, those much-needed maternity jeans, a school uniform dress or a swanky Ford Expedition, you’ll know it has been lovingly cared for by a fellow British mum. Best of all, you’ll get to meet a lovely British mum in the process!

How You Can Showcase Your Products or Services on Talented Mums
Lots of British mums are crafty, clever and very talented mums who no doubt have skills that the rest of us don’t have! We created Talented Mums because, with over 1,300 posts and comments per day within the British Mums Facebook group, posts can disappear very quickly out of sight. The chances of your post being seen depends on British Mums members looking at the group as you post and we recognise the work many of you put into your creations and of course, we want them to be seen!
