Dubai is a city that boasts thousands of options when it comes to fine dining, showcasing cuisines from every corner of the world, some created by celeb chefs and some, by soon-to-be legends in their own right. From delicately presented masterpieces, to impeccable service and superb views, were truly spoilt for options, whether it’s for a much-needed date night, time with the girls or that ultra-special occasion.

We’ve lived in Dubai for years and it becomes typical that we stick to the same favourites, but we recently discovered Spanish brand, 99 Sushi Bar & Restaurant and it’s safe to say, they’ve made the list of our top spots for an evening out. With only one location in Dubai, another in Abu Dhabi and the others based in top cities around the world, this is a fab little gem, that’s guaranteed to get those tase buds tingling.

Located at Address Downtown, make sure you get a spot outside on their terrace, so you don’t miss the sparkling lights of the Burj Khalifa twinkle down on you while you’re dining. It doesn’t matter how many times you’ve seen the Burj, it’s always mesmerising, and you’ll also be able to spot the Dubai Fountains from this spot too.

The award-winning restaurant takes guests on an extraordinary culinary voyage to the Land of the Rising Sun, infusing the cuisine with original signature techniques and flavours. The avant-garde experience boasts expertly crafted dishes, with an emphasis on premium blue fin tuna and is enhanced by exceptional service.

THE HARU TASTING MENU

Famed for their haute Japanese cuisine, we opted for the tasting menu (it would be rude not to) and this was definitely a wise decision. At AED 899 per couple (or AED 1,599 including a bottle of bubbly) we were certainly in for a feast, with 13 dishes gracing our table that evening. Come hungry as the food is exceptional, delicately presented and a brilliant combination of fresh seasonal ingredients and a passionate and inventive Chef!

The first few starters were scrumptious but when the Capumiso soup reached our table, we were spellbound – the most delicious miso soup we’ve ever tasted! We loved the Spicy Tuna Tartar which followed and who’d ever say no to Lobster Tempura? The next two courses however, completely knocked us for six and if you don’t fancy the full tasting menu, these are our two absolutely don’t-miss recommendations! The Golden Bricks are essentially a crispy rice topped with fresh Toro Tartar, Avocado, Tobiko and in true Dubai-style, adorned with Golden Leaf! Then came the Alaskan King Crab Gunkan which was another knock out – well played Chef! Believe it or not, 4 more courses followed with Wagyu tartar, Wagyu flambe nigri and a couple of other delicious options. Just when we thought we couldn’t eat anymore, the most delicious, light lemon cheesecake appeared in front of us, beautifully presented in a golden sphere and the perfect end to an outstanding evening.

The Haru Tasting Menu (Haru means Spring in Japanese) is available until 21st June (there’s also a vegetarian option) and then the summer menu launches and provides us with the perfect opportunity to go back for a whole new culinary experience. The Haru menu is available every day, for lunch and dinner and includes coffee or tea for the finish.

OMAKASE BUSINESS LUNCH

Don’t worry about donning a suit for this one, we all know being a mum is the hardest job there is! So if you fancy a weekday lunch with the girls then the Omakase Business Lunch is a 9-course tasting menu available for only AED 149 per person. Sample the signature Tiger Prawn Tempura with the 99 secret spicy cream, a selection of mouthwatering nigiris, from butterfish and truffle to seabass, salmon flambé and Australian wagyu.  A main course of Outside Skirt Steak and Galangal sauce seals the journey, just in time to get the kids from school. Available weekdays from 12pm to 3.30pm.

FRIDAY LUNCH

If a weekend outing is more your scene, then there’s the Zeitaku Lunch every Friday which features a jaw-dropping 12-course set menu at a very reasonable AED 399 per person including soft drinks. Running from 1-5pm there’s also the option to include bubbles for AED 499 or premium bubbles for AED 999. On this menu, expect to see Chicken Gyozas, King Crab Augratin, Tiger Prawn Tempura and a wonderful selection of maki and nigiri favourites.
