Last weekend the British Mums team (with kids and hubbies in tow) headed down to Aquaventure Waterpark at Atlantis The Palm, which has increased in size by a third with the opening of 28 new waterslides. We expected a fun-filled day out, but we were blown away by the hospitality and new attractions on offer. We had 9 kids below 6 between us – madness we know, but it’s safe to say that each and every one of us had a ball.

First up, the unexpected buggy ride to get to the new area of the park. Well, some of the kids could have stayed on there all day. We loved the views as we drove round the park and getting straight to the kids area (where there’s also lockers) made a huge difference.

The new part of the park comprises of two new kids areas; Splashers Cove and Splashers Lagoon for the little ones (ideal for our fearless 2 year olds and even our not-so-fearless 5 year olds). With lifeguards on patrol as far as the eye could see, we were pretty happy sitting in the shallows and embracing the heat as the kids moved round in a loop – up the stairs and down the slides, on repeat, for the best part of an hour. Both these sections have been designed to cater perfectly for siblings and whilst the toddlers stuck to the calmer slides, the older ones were able to race to the higher platforms and still splash down in the same area – perfect for us mummies trying to keep eyes on all the kids. Not only were there slides in these areas but plenty of fountains and water toys to play with as well as a shallow splash pool, perfect to keep all ages entertained.

There’s also the new Trident Tower, home to 6 of the most thrilling slides and flumes for the more fearless among us. It wasn’t suitable for our kiddies (not due to height requirements and only due to bravery) but that didn’t stop us ditching the daddies for some mum-time. After a fair few flights of stairs (keep your apple watches on ladies, this was a great calorie burner), we loved whizzing down the rides, something that we’ve missed doing over the past few years as we’ve been more intent on making sure swim nappies don’t leak.

We had lunch at one of the food courts and were all pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food – whilst it’s the usual fayre of hot dogs, burgers and fries there was also a decent veg option in the beyond burger, it made the perfect fuel stop ahead of more splash time.

Aquaventure is definitely great for the kids, but also amazing for the adults, so make sure you grab some friends and go in a group so there’s time to take turns and sneak off and enjoy some of the bigger rides while the children are left supervised. Trust us, they’ll never even realise your gone, they’ll be having so much fun!
