Midriff and Al Warqa mums will be super pleased to hear there’s a new school opening right on their doorstep, and the best bit? It’s set to be affordable for families sending their children there. Hooray!
Newlands School located in Al Warqa, is now open for student placement. It’s billed to provide education of an international standard to children aged between 3-11 years old and will adhere to the National Curriculum for England (NCfE), which is largely subject-and stage-based.
What’s really pricked our ears up is that it has just announced an “exceptional response” from expatriate parents eager to take advantage of its forward-thinking international approach to education allied to an affordable fee structure… It currently has a 10 per cent registration discount applicable to all new students joining before 10th September, which takes another step towards more affordable fees in our UAE schools – especially as the fees for the 2017-2018 academic year at are between AED 17,280 for little ones up to AED 23,760 per year, making this one of the most affordable schools in Dubai.
As a result, places for its September intake of 300 new pupils aged between 3-11 years are limited, with the school urging parents to act quickly to avoid disappointment if they want to nab some of those spaces!
It doesn’t end there as the school also plans to educate pupils up to 18 years in the near future.
We’ve also been told they’ll have a maximum of 25 pupils in each class which comes as another welcome surprise.
Newlands School will be overseen by Founding Principal and fellow Brit, Jane Whitby, who has extensive Middle East teaching experience and was fast-tracked to school leadership as part of an excellence programme under the education focussed UK government under Tony Blair during his tenure as British Prime Minister.
“We offer a perfect solution to parents in the Mirdiff and Al Warqa areas – talented, passionate staff, a British curriculum and a holistic international education at an affordable price,” explained the Principal.
“Our innovative approach to your child’s education means that we see the school offering a firm grounding on the road to university. With our smaller class sizes we can give our students our wholehearted attention and aim to find out and capitalise on each pupil’s key strengths. Dubai is creating a unique and transformational society, as a school we will contribute to this vision and ambition and we look forward to starting our inaugural school term next month.”
Part of Newland’s approach is pretty unique too. If you’ve already taken the children to see one of Dubai’s best new attractions – Orbi, you’ll be pleased to hear that Newlands have designed part of its curriculum around Orbi, Dubai on a unique collaboration to cover the important subjects of Science, Maths, Geography and English. Teachers at Newlands School will design learning that enables children to explore the natural world, through Orbi’s digital centre in Mirdiff Mall.
Children can choose from sensory visits, to learning and trips and the older children will have the opportunities to research scientific topics through the digital museum. This all forms part of Newland’s focus on innovative teaching and learning about the real world.
A useful bit of info is that the board of governors of Newlands Schools are the owners of the Beaconhouse Group, of the world’s largest school groups with approximately 274,000 students in eight countries. They have a track record of setting up and running successfully schools in south-east Asia and the Middle East so we’re keen to see them introduce this concept in Dubai too.
